    This communication focuses on the process of developing a new mathematics curriculum for Basic Education in Portugal. It begins by explaining the context that gave rise to the need for change. Then, it reveals the process that was developed by the team responsible for the elaboration of the new curricular guidelines. It then presents the new guidelines themselves, discussing the principles that give them rationality and the consequences they have on curricular options with a view to the internal coherence and relevance of the proposal. Below is a description of the measures underway to support the generalization of the new curricular guidelines in 2022/23. It ends with issues relevant to any curriculum development process that are particularly critical at this time

    Esta comunicação incide sobre o processo de desenvolvimento de um novo currículo de Matemática para o Ensino Básico em Portugal. Começa por explicar o contexto que fez surgir a necessidade de mudança. De seguida, revela o processo que foi desenvolvido por parte da equipa responsável pela elaboração das novas orientações curriculares.

    Apresenta depois as novas orientações propriamente ditas, discutindo os princípios que lhe conferem racionalidade e as consequências que estes têm nas opções curriculares com vista à coerência interna e relevância da proposta.

    Segue-se uma descrição das medidas em marcha com vista a apoiar a generalização das novas orientações curriculares em 2022/23. Termina-se com questões pertinentes em qualquer processo de desenvolvimento curricular e que são neste momento especialmente críticas.
