The simulations are aimedat modelling hyperthermia treatment of organs affected by cancer [1] –particularly the prostate. The studies were carried out with the objectiveof developing low-cost medical devices for use in low- and middle-incomecountries (LMIC). Our innovation has been to favor the use of free andopen-source tools, combining them so as to achieve realistic representations of the relevant tissue layers, regarding their geometric as well astheir acoustic and thermal properties. The combination of tools we haveselected are available to researchers in LMIC, to favor the emergencelocal research initiatives. To achieve precision in the shapes and locations of the models, we performed segmentation of Computed Tomography scan images obtained from public databases. The 3D representationsthus generated were then inputted as voxelized matrix regions in a calculation grid of pressure field and heat simulations - using open sourceMATLABR packages. We report on the results of simulations using thiscombination of software tools.
