Resumen de Relevance and identification of biases in statistical graphs by prospective Primary school teachers

Elena Molina Portillo Árbol académico, José Miguel Contreras García Árbol académico, Valeria Bizet Leyton, David Molina Muñoz

  • The power of information visualisation represented by means of statistical graphics requires the study of their understanding by citizens and the knowledge of how the transfer of statistical knowledge occurs at school. The purpose of this study is to observe the degree of statistical literacy of future teachers based on an evaluation of the statistical graphics used in the media, and the identification of biases that may be shown by them. Results implicitly show an acceptable identification of agreements while showing a very poor identification of biases. It may then be concluded that there is a need for educational reinforcement with respect to teaching and learning statistics that impact on the school.
