Un precursor en la renovación de métodos de enseñanza de la lectura y escritura a finales del Antiguo Régimen

    En este artículo presentamos el trabajo realizado a partir del análisis de un libro de uso escolar en España a finales del siglo XVIII, la “Guía del niño instruido y padre educado” y sus propuestas para la enseñanza de la lectura y escritura. Su autor, Francisco Gabriel Malo de Medina, presenta nuevos métodos para el aprendizaje de ambas técnicas, que resultan muy avanzados en su época, entre los que destaca el aprendizaje simultáneo de la lectura y la escritura o el uso de nuevas técnicas de enseñanza de la escritura. La aparición de estos nuevos métodos, que no acabaron implantándose de forma generalizada hasta muchos después, estuvo motivada por las exigencias de una época, la de la Ilustración, que no renunciaba a extender el conocimiento y el uso de la lectura y la escritura a todas las clases sociales.

    In this article we present the work carried out from the analysis of a school book used in Spain at the end of the 18th century, the "Guía del niño instruido y padre educado" ( Guide for the Educated Child and Parent) and its proposals for the teaching of reading and writing. Its author, Francisco Gabriel Malo de Medina, presents new methods for the learning of both skills, which were very advanced for their time. Among these methods we can single out the simultaneous learning of reading and writing or the use of new techniques for the teaching of writing. The appearance of these new methods, which were not total- ly established in a generalized form until many years later, was motivated by the requirements of the Age of Enlightenment which insisted on extending knowledge and the use of the reading and writing to all social classes.
