Información General

Resumen

  • E-commerce is an ever-increasing application of the Internet that is pus hing and transforming it into a medium for fruitful commercial transactions. By 1999, approximately 62 million people made purchases on-line, worth approximately $11O billion according to a recent report by the OECD. These figures have expanded exponentially during previous years, and if this expansion continues at this quick pace, then e-commerce transac tions will soon account for about five per cent of inter-company transac tions and retail sales.

However, the future success of e-commerce systems will not only be depen dent on how the underlying technology is used to meet basic requirements such as confidentiality or effectiveness, but also on how it can be integrated with existing complementary technologies and applications such as the web middlewares, multi-media, telecommunications, agents or databases. The new development requires research on new architectures, frameworks, pro cesses, and inter-connectivity of information systems at society, organisa tion, team, and personal levels.

This book compiles a series of articles on technology supporting business solutions that will be useful to people responsible for R&D departments, as well as for scientists, and technicians interested in this field.
