The dimensions and performances de 5 types of electronic ear tags used for pig identification were evaluated with 5 types of transceivers under static laboratory conditions. Obtained results showed insufficient opening resistance in 2 ear tags and marked differences in reading performances (4.4 to 27.6 cm) according to ear tag type, transceiver type used and orientation of their antennas. Half-duplex transponders showed greater reading performances than half-duplex B transponders for the transceivers used.
