We consider that it is desirable to include historical notes as a teaching aid in the class of Mathematics. In this paper we develop this idea, using the collection of the library of the Escorial monastery (dating from the time of Felipe II – XVII century-). This library is considered one of the best of its kind in the world. There, treasures that are fundamental to know the evolution of knowledge are accumulated.
