Given the widespread use of mobile devices in educational settings, video analysis offers a motivating tool for studying linear algebra concepts, which are often perceived as abstract in the early years of undergraduate study. This paper describes the application of matrix techniques, specifically Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) and Dynamic Mode Decomposition (DMD), for video segmentation. The procedure allows the movement of a body against a static background to be isolated algebraically, facilitating the automatic extraction of experimental trajectories. To validate the effectiveness of this methodology and its usefulness in the physics laboratory, two case studies are presented: the bounce of a ball and the oscillation of a damped pendulum. The results show that the use of these tools not only simplifies data analysis but also effectively integrates mathematical theory with experimentation in general physics laboratories.
