In the context of mathematics education, there is a significant dependence on the universal (global) dimension of mathematics and curriculum development based on this educational paradigm. At the same time, there is a prejudicial tendency towards the diversity of cultural aspects and orientations towards mathematical knowledge and practices developed locally. Thus, recognizing the importance of local mathematical experiences encourages connection, debate, and attention to the nature of mathematics and the school curriculum regarding the ongoing changes and development of culture and society. This approach also enables the creation of a democratic environment for the discussion of curricular decolonization. The decolonization of education is related to the examination of assumptions inherent in Western knowledge, science, and modern educational theory to make visible and dispel any assumptions that local knowledge and practices are primitive and are in binary opposition to Western scientific knowledge, Eurocentric, or modern knowledge. Furthermore, the goal of a decolonized education is related to the resurgence and empowerment of members of distinct cultural groups. This perspective makes it possible to identify 3 (three) cultural/anthropological approaches: emic (local), etic (global), and dialogic (glocal/cultural dynamism) that can help in the investigation, study, and discussion of issues related to curricular decolonization. They also aid in understanding the ideas, procedures, and mathematical practices developed by members of distinct cultures through the dynamics of the encounter of distinct cultures according to the dialogical approach of ethnomodelling for the elaboration of ethnomodels, in a perspective that adds the cultural aspects of mathematics in the mathematical modelling processes. The aim of this chapter is to discuss cultural and anthropological approaches to Ethnomodeling, whose investigations have been conducted by the authors since 2010, as well as to present examples related to the calculation of areas through the process of cubação in the context of family farming.
