  • Resumen
    • A fundamental understanding of Computer Science is essential for 21st-century citizens. However, this topic often fails to capture the interest of young people. This study aims to integrate Computer Science into pre-university education, with the objective of fostering the development of Computational Thinking skills through the implementation of an emotion-based adaptive learning system.

      To achieve this objective, an analysis of the state of this field in primary and secondary education was first conducted, focusing on the results in terms of age and gender of the participants. Subsequently, a second study evaluated the effectiveness of in-person teaching versus teaching through videoconference systems. Given that emotions are one of the variables that affect the teaching/learning process, a study was conducted to examine the emotions felt by these students while learning these contents.

      The results indicated significant gender differences, particularly in secondary education, where a loss of interest was observed. Regarding the teaching methodology via videoconference, it was found to be less effective than in-person teaching. Finally, the study of emotions revealed that younger students experienced more positive emotions and fewer negative emotions compared to older students.

      All the obtained results led to a fourth study, utilizing all the acquired knowledge to design an adaptive learning system based on emotions. The objective of this system is to enhance not only knowledge and Computational Thinking abilities but also the perception and interest in Computer Science.
