El presente trabajo de investigación histórica se propone ampliar la comprensión de la riqueza científica desarrollada en el Perú durante los siglos XVII y XVIII. Así, buscamos traer a la luz la historia de la Primera Cátedra de Matemática desarrollada en el Perú y los principales aportes de sus dos primeros Catedráticos. Quedódevelado que el desarrollo del campo matemático en el Perú, en sus inicios, estuvo estrechamente vinculado con el estudio y la práctica de actividades marítimas. Se pudo conocer que el primer centro de enseñanza de la Cátedra de Matemática, en Sudamérica, fue establecidoen el Perú. La Escuela Náuticafue fundada por el virrey Alba de Liste en el año de 1657. La Cátedra de Matemática fue impartida por Ruiz Lozano y el jesuita Juan Ramón Koenig.

The present historical research work makes it possible to expand the understanding, of the scientific wealth developed in Peru during the 17th and 18th centuries. Thus, we seek to bring to light the history of the First Cathedra of Mathematics developed in Peru and the main contributions of its first two Professors.It was revealed that the development of the mathematical field in Peru, in its beginnings, was closely linked with the study and practice of maritime activities.It was found outthat the first teaching center for the Cathedraof Mathematicsin South America was established in Peru.The Nautical Schoolwas founded by the viceroy Alba de Liste in the year 1657.The Cathedra of Mathematics was taught by Ruiz Lozano and the jesuit Juan Ramón Koenig.
