Datos, relaciones y gráficas: una revisión de periódicos mexicanos y reportes gubernamentales

    Se reportan resultados de una investigación basada en análisis de contenido sobre los tipos de relación en los datos y las gráficas que usualmente se utilizan en periódicos mexicanos y reportes del Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía (INEGI). Los resultados muestran que las relaciones de cambio de una variable a través del tiempo y las de proporciones y comparación son las más utilizadas en los periódicos,las gráficas para expresar estas relaciones son las de barras y de línea. La revisión del currículo de primaria hasta bachillerato en México muestra la ausencia de algunas gráficas para expresar relaciones más complejas que aparecen en los medios de comunicación, además de la falta de la componente crítica que se requiere para su interpretación.

    Results of an investigation based on content analysis on the types of relationships in the data and graphics that are usually used in Mexican newspapers and reports from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) are reported. The results show that the relationships of change of a variable through time and those of proportions and comparison are the most used in newspapers, the graphics to express these relationships are bar and line graphics. The review of the curriculum from primary to high school in Mexico shows the absence of some graphics to express more complex relationships that appear in the media, in addition to the lack of the critical component required for their interpretation.
