• This paper presents an up-to-date finite element numerical model for fullycoupled thermo-mechanical problems, focusing in the simulation of industrial solidificationprocesses. The proposed constitutive equations have been identified to model the thermo-mechanical multi-phase behavior of cast iron from liquidus to room temperature. A frac-tional step method arising from an operator split of the governing equations is used tosolve the non-linear coupled system of equations, leading to a staggered product formulasolution algorithm suitable for large scale computations.
