Exceso de peso en preescolares de Centroamérica y México en los últimos 30 años

    El exceso de peso en edades tempranas se ha incrementado en los últimos años a nivel mundial, lo que puede propiciar una mayor prevalencia de Enfermedades Crónicas no Transmisibles en etapas posteriores de la vida. El objetivo de este estudio fue comparar el porcentaje de sobrepeso en niños de dos a cuatro años en los diferentes países de Centroamérica y México, con base en la información reportada por Our World in Data y Cepal, en el periodo comprendido entre los años 1990 y 2020. Se empleó el modelo lineal general con transformación BOX-COX, a fin de validar los supuestos estadísticos del modelo, encontrando que Costa Rica se diferencia estadísticamente (p<0,05) de las demás naciones de Centroamérica respecto al porcentaje de exceso de peso. Dicha nación presenta los porcentajes más altos a lo largo del tiempo, mientras Honduras posee el menor valor. Es necesario establecer políticas públicas en las que se promueva una alimentación saludable y un estilo de vida adecuado, desde edades tempranas, para un correcto desarrollo, a fin de disminuir la aparición de enfermedades en el futuro, permitiendo mejor calidad de vida.

    Overweight from early ages has increased in recent years around the world, which can lead to a higher prevalence of Chronic Non-communicable Diseases later in life. The objective of this study was to compare the percentage of overweight in children between two and four years old in the different countries of Central America and Mexico, based on the information reported by Our World in Data and Cepal, in the period from 1990 to 2020. The general linear model with BOX-COX transformation was used to validate the statistical assumptions of the model. Costa Rica statistically differs (p<0.05) from the rest of Central America, regarding the percentage of overweight in children whose age ranges between two and four years. This nation presents the highest percentages over time, while Honduras has the lowest. It is necessary to establish public policies that promote a healthy diet and lifestyle from an early age, in order to reduce the appearance of diseases in the future, improving quality of life.
