Vehicular ad-hoc networks are one of themost promising network technologies, as they willprovide vehicles with real-time information about accidentsor congestion on the road. In these cases, obtaining accurate information could be a valuableresource for traffic authorities and drivers. One ofthe most accurate sources of information would be areal-time video showing the state of a critical event,so a proper diffusion of the video is critical to maximizethe user-perceived quality. This task is reallydifficult due to the typical VANET problems such assignal attenuation, packet losses, high relative speeds, etc. In this paper we address these problems by comparingsolutions that combine different video codecsand different flooding algorithms to assess the effectivenessof long-distance real-time video flooding. Inparticular, we will compare the most effective videocoding standard available (H.264) with the upcomingH.265 codec in terms of both frame loss and PSNR.
