In this post-truth era we live in, the misuse of statistics and data is a fact. Its noxious effects areboosted if by chance they become viral in the social media. This is why now it is more importantthan ever to reinforce the efforts to increase the statistical literacy of our society. More skilled userswill be more concerned about the quality of the data sources on which they base their decisions. Thisway, the investment in statistical literacy tools can be of interest for official statistics producers astheir products follow high-quality standards.Secondary students are very often seen as an important target group for statistical literacy projectsas they will be, for sure, statistical users in the next future. INE Spain started in 2010 differentinitiatives to increase the statistical culture of the society while promoting official statistics amongusers. One of these projects, the Statistical Competition has been consolidated not only at nationalbut also at European level. Nowadays it is a cooperative work where National Statistical Institutes(NSIs) collaborate with academic and professional communities contributing altogether to spread themessages around the usefulness of Statistics for daily life.
