Everyday life often presents us with the challenge of getting the most out of limited resources. There are many examples showing that Nature also follows some sort of economy principle, whereby it maximizes the utility of the materials at hand.
Mathematically speaking, the right context for such questions are the so-called optimization problems or problems of maxima and minima. This article provides a brief overview of some famous problems of maxima and minima that share a remarkable geometrical flavour.

A la vida quotidiana es planteja constantment el repte de treure el màxim profit possible a partir d’uns recursos donats. Nombrosos exemples mostren que la Natura també segueix una mena de principi d’economia que l’empeny a maximitzar el rendiment amb els recursos disponibles. Matemàticament, el marc adient per abordar aquestes qüestions són els anomenats problemes d’optimització o problemes de màxims i mínims. En aquest article farem un breu recorregut per alguns problemes famosos de màxims i mínims que tenen en comú un marcat sabor geomètric.
