Most complex decision problems require the decision maker trade-offs between competing value objectives. This paper offers a comprenhesive study of the multiattribute value and utility analysis by reviewing different surveys concentrated on mathematical aspects and pointing out that the trade-offs process can be approximated using utility models. Other aspects under this context like group decision making, preferences over time and some applications to real complex problems are also presented.
