Although it is true that computer aided instruction has every time more supporters thanks to the successful creation and delivering of several systems made for this goal, many people concerned in joining this wave do not do it due to the ignorance of the existent alternatives or because they feel overwhelmed by the amount and variety of such alternatives. With the aim of solving in part this dilemma and helping those who are concerned to not drown in this alternatives sea, a taxonomy of some of the most important approaches in this area is exposed in this paper trying to describe in a clear way each one of them. Even if such descriptions do not have as potential audience people who are informatics experts, it does require some basic knowledge given the technological component of the analyzed topics.
