    En este artículo se explica a grandes rasgos cómo la matematización del conocimiento científico que se produjo en los siglos XVI y XVII exigió de las matemáticas una evolución súbita para poder hacer frente a las nuevas demandas. La matemática heredada de los griegos con su matriz geométrica, su aversión al infinito presente y su torpeza en el manejo de curvas era incapaz de satisfacer las nuevas demandas.

    In this paper we overview how the mathematization of the knowledge in the XVI and XVII centuries demanded from mathematics a sudden evolution to cope with the needs of the new science. The classical mathematics from Greek and Hellenistic period with its geometric focus, its reluctance to use infinites and its inability to deal with curves other than conics were unable to satisfy the challenge.
