Virtual campuses are usually developed with a high level of coupling to the underlying e-learning platforms. Although several approaches for isolating virtual campuses from these platforms have been proposed, at present there is no evidence in the literature of virtual campuses being run using any of these approaches. The virtual campus advanced architecture has been in use over a period of four academic years. This paper demonstrates the feasibility of the development, deployment, and use of a new generation of virtual campus that is independent of the underlying e-learning platform and promotes the development of this approach.
