As mentioned by the authors of the invited paper, there have been several excellent survey papers on polling systems; for example, Takagi (1997), Vishnevskii and Semenova (2006) and Boon et al. (2011). The first two articles investigated various issues for polling systems, including the developments in the analysis and optimization. The third article focused on the applications of polling systems. These three articles do not include an overview of the issues regarding the asymptotics in polling systems, whereas the authors of the invited paper do.
