Operations Research has been a fruitful tool for approaching logistic problems in transportation. In particular, since the seminar article (Dantzig and Ramser 1959), vehicle routing has motivated lots of research. The book (Toth and Vigo 2002) gives a nice overview of the main contributions in this area until 10 years ago. Recently, the research in vehicle routing has increased in many directions, and indeed today it is quite complicated to summarize all the contributions on vehicle routing in a single book.
