The outbreak of Spanish Civil War caused a collapse in the Nation's intellectual and scientific life. In this paper, some very special episodes in the lives and fates of such outstanding mathematicians José Barinaga, Pedro Pineda, Luis A. Santaló and Ricardo San Juan between 1936 and 1939 will be shown. Through some of their never published previously correspondence, an important part of the state of the Spanish mathematical community during those years will be known for the first time.
