In 1910 the Junta para Ampliación de Estudios created different Centres for both introducing new ideas in Science teaching and updating scientific research. But it was not until 1915 that Mathematics found its place once a specially talented mathematician was found to direct such activities, Julio Rey Pastor. In this article the early years of the never institutionalized Laboratorio Seminario Matemático is analyzed for the first time through the use of new documents never referred before by historians of Spanish Mathematics and complementary interpretation of existent literaturre.
