In this article, one of the sources consulted by Juan Justo García Rodríguez to write the historical summary in the beginning of the first edition of his Elementos de Aritmética, Álgebra y Geometría is identified. The relation between this summary and the source is analyzed and the conclusion is that this source was almost the only one used.
