En este artículo estudiamos el nacimiento de la geometría analítica, que tuvo lugar en la primera mitad del siglo XVII, y la situación general de la matemática al iniciarse el siglo. Se incide de forma particular en la relación entre la invención de la geometría analítica y el desarrollo de los métodos infinitesimales.

In this paper we study the birth of Analytic Geometry, which took place in the first half of the 17th century, and the general state of mathematics in those years.
In particular, we study the relationship between the discovery of Analytic Geometry and the development of infinitesimal methods.
