  La lucha antiinfecciosa farmacológica se lleva a cabo mediante antibióticos, antisépticos y quimioterápicos), mostrando la primera opción, un fundamento ecológico, basado en la antibiosis, proceso de relación letal entre microorganismos -hongos y bacterias-.

  Aun ignorando dicho fenómeno, el hombre utilizó desde tiempos inmemoriales, con tal fin, inicialmente hongos y, posteriormente, bacterias. La antibiosis careció de repercusión práctica hasta la consecución de la penicilina, tras superar su carácter antibacteriano y alcanzar el antiinfeccioso, inicio de la antibioticoterapia, cuya eficacia ha sido totalmente verificada.

  Pese a tratarse de una actividad aplicativa de fundamento ecológico, la antibioticoterapia conlleva el riesgo de alterar el equilibrio entre los microorganismos y el de facilitar las resistencias bacterianas y de hongos, con las consiguientes repercusiones en la patología infecciosa, como se desprende de la experiencia acumulada durante el medio siglo de empleo, con consecuencias imprevisibles en el futuro, exigiendo por ello, en su empleo, la aplicación de los principios ecológicos

  The pharmacological struggle against infections is carried out by antibiotics, antiseptics and chemotherapeutic agents, having the former an ecological basis in antibiosis, the process of lethal relationship between microorganisms -fungi and bacteria-.

  Although unaware of such a phenomenon, men have used from time immemorial first fungi and bacteria, later on, for this purpose. Antibiotics did not find eventually a clinical application until the discovery of penicillin, a substance that meant the passage from the antibacterial to antiinfectious activity and hence the dawn of the era of antibiotics therapy, the efficacy of which has completely proved.

  Despite the fact of being a therapeutical approach with an ecological basis, the antibiotic therapy entails, as it has been experienced during the last 50 years, the risk of altering the natural equlibrium between microorganisms as well as the appearance of resistances whose future consequences are hardly foreseeable. Therefore, ecological principles should be taken into account in the use of antibiotics.
