We use recent generalization of the slidding ladder to illustrate the advantages of combining dynamic geometry and computer algebra systems. The envelopes of ladders of variable length are studied within the computer algebra system Sage: we use GeoGebra for oftaining an graphical approach to these envelopes, and Singular for performing a simple elimination process that returns the evelope equation.
