An investigation was conducted to identify the factors that have motivated female students to pursue an university degree in Mathematics. The data reported were obtained through semi-structured interviews to 15 female university students in Mathematics from the Autonomous University of Guerrero in Mexico. The data were analyzed by using a qualitative method. Some identified factors are: a taste for mathematics and feeling themselves good at mathematics. Using the concept of identity, we conclude that these factors allow the girls to build an identity as good mathematics students, this in turn favors the choice of mathematics as a university career.
