Resumen
- En esta nueva era donde las TICs y la Web evolucionan rápidamente es de vital importancia que estos recursos puedan ser utilizados por todos los usuarios y que no existan barreras que dificulten trabajar con ellos. La accesibilidad y usabilidad, entre otros atributos de calidad, son propiedades que deben estar presentes en estas tecnologías para que puedan ser accedidas con éxito por todos los ciudadanos. Pero, la diversidad humana propone un gran variedad de usuarios Web con diferentes características y problemáticas. Por ejemplo, usuarios con algún tipo de discapacidad (problemas visuales, de motricidad y cognitivos); usuarios comprendidos en diferentes rangos de edades (adultos, adultos mayores, jóvenes y niños), usuarios pertenecientes a diferentes culturas (costumbres e idiomas), etc. También es importante considerar el hecho de que nadie está exento a lo largo de su vida de sufrir algún tipo de discapacidad permanente (o temporal) que dificulte el acceso e interación con estas tecnologías y la Web.Numerosos han sido los esfuerzos de los grupos de investigación para contribuir con propuestas a la Usabilidad de la Web. También, desde 1999, año en que se presentan las primeras recomendaciones sobre Accesibilidad Web del consorcio W3C, diferentes organizaciones han propuesto estándares y guías para contribuir a una Web más accesible. Todos estas propuestas y documentos se pueden aplicar para concebir y desarrollar sitios Web nuevos, cómo así también para revisar y mejorar la Accesibilidad de los sitios Web existentes. Si embargo, aportar soluciones para ofrecer sitios Web más accesibles a los diferentes perfiles de usuario, no es un problema trivial.En este trabajo, presentamos dos experiencias con usuarios adultos mayores, para determinar y proponer mejoras que se ajusten a las necesidades de este importante y creciente grupo de usuarios Web. Nuestras propuestas surgen del trabajo conjunto entre los docentes/ investigadores y los usuarios Web adultos mayores, para identificar de primera mano, las barreras que afectan el acceso y la interacción con la Web de este grupo crítico de interés. En particular, nuestro estudio se focaliza en un correo electrónico y una red social (Yahoo y Facebook, respectivamente), como dos aplicaciones claves a la hora de propiciar la comunicación y la integración de nuestros abuelos en la sociedad, evitando la depresión y el aislamiento.
