  • The main result of this note is a tracial Nullstellensatz for free noncommutative polynomials evaluated at tuples of matrices of all sizes: Suppose f 1 ,�,f r ,f are free polynomials, and tr(f) vanishes whenever all tr(f j ) vanish. Then either 1 or f is a linear combination of the f j modulo sums of commutators
