El objetivo final de este estudio es identificar el posicionamiento de los bancos y cajas de ahorro españolas, analizando la evolución de los ratios contables más representativos de las principales Entidades Financieras Españolas en el periodo 2000-2008. Para ello, elaboraremos un ranking utilizando dichos ratios financieros obtenidos de sus balances anuales, aplicando Indicadores Sintéticos.
De esta forma, hemos querido recoger la situación en la cual se encontraba el Sector Bancario Español en el periodo previo a las fusiones bancarias y a la crisis económica actual, intentando encontrar indicios y justificaciones a las fusiones antes comentadas.

The final aim of this study is to identify positioning of banks and Savings banks, analysing the evolution of the most representative accounting ratios of the main Spanish financial firms in the 2000-2008 period. For this goal, we will compute a ranking using financial ratios obtained from their annual balances and finally applying synthetic Indicators. This way, we want to simulate the situation the Spanish Banking Sector had to face in the periods before to the banking fusions and the current economic crisis, trying to find signals and justifications to the later commented fusions.
