The importance of competitive balance in sport has been shown in many publications. The supremacy in the last seasons of two teams over the rest of the participants in the Spanish First Division league has become pervasive theme in sports media. This work illustrates that this situation is not new since in the past the imbalance was also evident. For reaching this conclusion it has been analyzed, through various rates of static competitive equilibrium, the 81 season results of the First Division league (1928-29 to 2011-12, excluding the 36-37 to 38-39 coinciding with the Spanish civil war).
