Severalfamiliarresultsaboutnormalandextremallydisconnected(classicalorpointfree)spacesshapetheideathatthetwonotionsaresomehowdualtoeachotherandcanthereforebestudiedinparallel.Thispaperinvestigatesthesourceofthis�duality�andshowsthateachpairofparallelresultscanbeframedbythe�same�proof.Thekeytoolsforthispurposearerelativenotionsofnormality,extremaldisconnectedness,semicontinuityandcontinuity(withrespecttoafixedclassofcomplementedsublocalesofthegivenlocale)thatbringandextendtolocaletheoryavarietyofwell-knownclassicalvariantsofnormalityandupperandlowersemicontinuitiesinanilluminatingunifiedmanner.Thisapproachallowsustounifyunderasinglelocalicproofallclassicalinsertion,aswellastheircorrespondingextensionresults.
