The capstone course at Eastern Connecticut State University was designed for teacher candidates in secondary mathematics. The course centers on the idea of connections between mathematical topics, between different areas of mathematics, and between undergraduate and secondary mathematics. The course also provides data for accreditation of the teacher education program through portfolio assessment. In this article, we describe the evolution of the course into its present form. We also discuss the accreditation process and how our capstone course has been essential in providing valuable data on students' learning. Supplementary materials are available for this article.
