  Este artículo explora la evolución y diferencias por sexo en los matrimonios de españoles con extranjeros celebrados en España entre 1998 y 2008 a partir de los microdatos del Movimiento Natural de la Población. Los matrimonios mixtos han aumentado de 9.267 en 1998 a 28.054 en 2008, cifra que representa el 14.5% de los matrimonios totales. Se analizan las diferencias por sexo, el origen de los cónyuges, la edad al matrimonio y las diferencias de edad entre los cónyuges. Las diferencias percibidas invitan a reflexionar sobre la influencia que la dinámica del mercado matrimonial español haya podido tener en las pautas observadas.

  This research note uses vital registration data to examine differences between men and women that marry foreign nationals in Spain between 1998 and 2008.

  Intermarriages have grown from 9.267 in 1998 to 28.061 in 2008, which corresponds to 14.6% of total marriages. In 2008, 60 % of intermarriages were of Spanish men marrying to foreign national women. Differences by sex are also seen in the national origin of the spouses, age at marriage, and age differences between spouses. Men married predominantly Latin American women (60%) and at older ages and with younger women if compared to those marrying Spanish women. Women married men from the European Union 15 (32%) and Latin American (30%) and their distribution by age at marriage was quite similar to that of women marrying Spanish men. Differences between Spanish men and women in mixed marriages suggest that the dynamics of the internal marriage market may have had an influence on the observed patterns.
