Resumen de Analysis of the portfolio effect of a group of wind farms

J. Asín, B. Sánchez, J.M. Marco, C. Triviño

  • The aim of this work is to characterise the spatial dependency of the energy production series of several wind farms distributed across Europe. In order to determine the nature of the correlation structure, the analysis is carried out using monthly wind speed as proxy data since the observed production data of the wind farms are not available.

The first step is to remove the seasonality of the series. The second step is to take into account the statistical significance of the correlation and then the correlation matrix is defined. The variance associated to the energy production of each wind farm is estimated quantifying the uncertainties and considering the inter-annual variability. The correlation structure along with the variances allows the variance-covariance matrix of the production series to be obtained.

This estimation, based on the existence of a certain degree of non-correlation between the wind farms, allows the calculation of the associated variance to obtain the portfolio effect.
