Resumen de Astronomía, ¿para qué?

Coincidiendo con el Año Internacional de la Astronomía promulgado por UNESCO se han realizado muchas actividades coordinadas por la IAU (Unión Astronómica Internacional) en todo el mundo y, en particular, en nuestro país por un comité creado para la ocasión. En este artículo se trata de reflexionar sobre las principales contribuciones de la Astronomía y de los astrónomos y astrónomas al progreso de nuestra sociedad, el papel que la Astronomía ocupa en ella y el que le puede esperar en el futuro próximo. Se trata de una visión personal e incompleta del autor que también describe la situación de la Astronomía en nuestro país.

Along 2009, International Year of Astronomy named by UNESCO, many astronomical activities had taken place in almost all countries all over the planet organised by the IAU (International Astronomical Union). In particular, in our country such activities have been promoted by a committee set up especially for that occasion. In this paper, the author reflects on the main contributions of Astronomy and astronomers to the progress of our society, the role that Astronomy is playing and in what can be contributing in the near future. Is a personal view of the author that also describes the situation of the Astronomy in Spain
