Resumen de Research in Mathematics Education: Learning from Each Other

Jeremy Kilpatrick Árbol académico

  • The papers by Joao Pedro da Ponte and Salvador Llinares provide comprehensive surveys and discussions of recent research in mathematics education in Spain and Portugal. In each country, one sees that the mathematics education has many facets both as a field of study and as a field of practice. Consequently, the research that has been done takes a variety of forms. If we look more broadly across countries, we see similar phenomena everywhere. Although in one sense our field is young and just beginning to understand what it means to do serious research, in another sense we have much to draw upon and many examples to learn from. In my presentation, I will draw upon the two papers, as well as my experience in the United States, to discuss current issues, trends, and possible developments in the future.
