Water is the simplest compound formed by oxygen and hydrogen, and the second more abundant molecule in the Universe. We drink water everyday, we washed ourselves with water, we fish and swim in it, we cook with it (perhaps not everything at the same time) and, nevertheless, it is possible that we disregard the intimate relationship that water maintains with our life and with life in general. Water seems an ordinary substance but the opposite is right. Although it is the most studied material, its behavior and functions are still poorly understood. The title of this article invites to pose the question: why water is life? That, I will try to explain.
