The text reflects on how digital art has contributed, over several decades, to defining and inhabiting the hybrid space between the real and the virtual, placing the body at the centre of the experience. Drawing on a corpus of interactive and immersive projects, it examines how the relationship between artwork and participant is constructed through gestures, movements and interactions that blur the boundaries between physical and digital presence. From the notion of embodied interaction, it highlights the importance of context, sensoriality and lived experience for understanding these practices, which resist reductionist views of technology. The text shows how such proposals choreograph participation, explore intimacy, perception and vulnerability, and anticipate forms of engagement with the digital that have now become familiar.
