  La evaluación estandarizada de servicios es compleja y multidimensional, y constituye un área de interés prioritario para la implementación, la planificación y la gestión de recursos sanitarios en salud mental. Requiere la utilización de baterías de instrumentos estandarizados que permitan una descripción completa del sector, el tipo de servicios, su utilización y su funcionamiento. El grupo europeo EPCAT viene trabajando desde 1994 en el diseño y aplicación de instrumentos con este propósito. En este contexto el Service Mapping Schedule (SMS) es un cuestionario diseñado para la descripción estandarizada de servicios de salud mental en el ámbito europeo. Se describe aquí su marco conceptual, el desarrollo, sus características principales y la de su versión española, efectuada por el grupo PSICOST.

  The standardized version of services is complex and multidimensional and constitutes an area of primary interest for the implementation, planning and procedures with resources for mental health. It demands the utilization of batteries of standardized instruments which permit a complete description of the sector, the type of service, its utilization and functioning. The European Group EPCAT has been working since 1994 on the design and application of instruments with this goal in mind. In this context the Service Mapping Schedule (SMS) is a questionnaire designed for the standardized description of mental health services in the European setting. The conceptual framework, the development, the principal characteristics and the Spanish version carried out by the group PSICOST are described here.
