    La inteligencia artificial (IA) generativa está transformando las bibliotecas al automatizar tareas como la catalogación y la búsqueda de información, optimizando recursos y servicios, y mejorando su eficiencia. Este trabajo busca reflexionar sobre si la IA es una aliada estratégica o una amenaza para los bibliotecarios, explorando su impacto actual, los nuevos roles que introduce y las percepciones del personal. Aunque la IA no puede sustituir el valor humano, sí tiene la capacidad de reemplazar un amplio número de tareas especializadas, afectando de manera desigual a los distintos sistemas de información. En este contexto, las bibliotecas tienen la oportunidad de liderar un cambio de paradigma al integrar estas herramientas de forma crítica, asegurando que su uso se alinee con principios de equidad y transparencia, consolidándose como actores clave en la sociedad del conocimiento.

    Generative artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming libraries by automating tasks such as cataloging and information retrieval, optimizing resources and services, and improving their efficiency. This work seeks to reflect on whether AI is a strategic ally or a threat to librarians, examining its current impact, the new roles it introduces, and staff perceptions.

    While AI cannot replace the unique value of human contribution, it has the potential to supplant a significant number of specialized tasks, affecting different information systems unevenly. In this context, libraries have the opportunity to lead a paradigm shift by critically integrating these tools and ensuring their use aligns with principles of equity and transparency, solidifying their position as key actors in the knowledge society.
