Avances en publicaciones científicas relacionadas con farmacología a nivel mundial

    Introducción: La farmacología comprende todos los aspectos relacionados con la acción de los fármacos, su origen, efecto, preparación, propiedades, acciones en el ámbito molecular, entre otros. Las publicaciones en el área son de interés por parte de la comunidad científica con el fin de ver la actualidad e inferir el futuro desarrollo. Objetivo: Evaluar la producción científica sobre farmacología en los últimos 25 años en el mundo, con base en la información reportada por los portales cienciométricos Scimago Journal and Country Rank, Dimensions y WoS.  Métodos: La presente investigación se clasifica como descriptiva comparativa en el tiempo. La información fue extraída entre los años 1996 al 2020. Las variables respuesta fueron número de documentos publicados, cantidad de documentos citados y autocitados, e índice H. Las variables control fueron la región y los años de evaluación. Se empleó análisis multivariado de la varianza con contraste canónico y análisis de Network.Resultados: Se encontró diferencia estadística de tipo significativo entre regiones, Norteamérica lidera el número de publicaciones y citaciones en el campo de la farmacología, seguido de Europa Occidental y Asia. África, Latinoamérica, la región Pacífica y los países árabes son las zonas geográficas de menor producción científica. Se aprecia un crecimiento notorio en el avance científico en el área de la farmacología en la última década.Conclusiones: El número de publicaciones y citaciones en el área de la farmacología se ha incrementado a través del tiempo a nivel mundial. Existe una gran brecha entre las regiones con alto poder adquisitivo respecto a aquellas en vía de desarrollo, en lo referente al número de artículos relacionados con las diferentes temáticas de la farmacología. EE. UU., China, Reino Unido, India y Japón son las naciones con mayor incidencia. Brasil es el único país de Latinoamérica que se destaca en la clasificación de Scopus.

    Introduction: Pharmacology comprises all aspects related to the action of drugs, their origin, effect, preparation, properties, actions at the molecular level, among others. Publications in this area are of interest to the scientific community in order to see the current situation and infer future developments.Objective: To evaluate the scientific production on pharmacology in the last 25 years in the world, based on the information reported by the scientometric portals Scimago Journal and Country Rank, Dimensions and WoS.Methods: This research is classified as descriptive and comparative over time. The information was extracted between 1996 and 2020. The response variables were number of documents published, number of documents cited and self-cited, and H index. The control variables were region and years of evaluation. Multivariate analysis of variance with canonical contrast and Network analysis were used.Results: Significant statistical differences were found between regions, with North America leading in the number of publications and citations in the field of pharmacology, followed by Western Europe and Asia. Africa, Latin America, the Pacific region and the Arab countries are the geographical areas with the lowest scientific production. A noticeable growth in scientific progress in the area of pharmacology in the last decade is apparent.Conclusions: The number of publications and citations in the area of pharmacology has increased over time worldwide. There is a large gap between regions with high purchasing power and those in the developing world in terms of the number of articles related to the different topics in pharmacology. The USA, China, UK, India and Japan are the nations with the highest incidence. Brazil is the only Latin American country that stands out in the Scopus ranking.
