Resumen de Contributions to the numerical solution of optimization problems arising in power network management

Alfredo Ríos Alborés

  • Power transmission networks are essential infrastructures for ensuring a continuous and reliable supply of electricity to residential and industrial consumers. Their efficient operation is critical to maintain system stability, minimize costs, and facilitate the integration of renewable energy sources into the grid. System operators must face different issues, such as forecasting demand, optimizing costs, and ensuring operational stability. Overcoming these challenges requires advanced mathematical modeling, numerical simulation, and optimization techniques to develop accurate and efficient solutions. This thesis aims to contribute to this field by improving the efficient operation of modern power transmission systems. Specifically, it focuses on the Unit Commitment (UC) problem, a fundamental optimization challenge in electricity transmission networks whose objective is to determine the optimal scheduling of generation units in a short-term horizon to satisfy demand while minimizing costs.
