This paper presents an efficient cyberphysical platform for the smart management of smart territories. It is efficient because it facilitates the implementation of data acquisition and data management methods, as well as data representation and dashboard configuration. The platform allows for the use of any type of data source, ranging from the measurements of a multi-functional IoT sensing devices to relational and non-relational databases. It is also smart because it incorporates a complete artificial intelligence suit for data analysis; it includes techniques for data classification, clustering, forecasting, optimization, visualization, etc. It is also compatible with the edge computing concept, allowing for the distribution of intelligence and the use of intelligent sensors. The concept of smart cities is evolving and adapting to new applications; the trend to create intelligent neighbourhoods, districts or territories is becoming increasingly popular, as opposed to the previous...

The management of heterogeneous distributed sensor networks requires new solutions that can address the problem of automatically fusing the information coming from different sources in an efficient and effective manner. In the literature it is possible to find different types of data fusion and information fusion techniques in use today, but it is still a challenge to obtain systems that allow the automation or semiautomation of information processing and fusion. In this paper, we present a multiagent system that based on the organizational theory proposes a new model to automatically process and fuse information in heterogeneous distributed sensor networks. The proposed architecture is applied to a case study for indoor location where information is taken from different heterogeneous sensors.

Nowadays Cloud Computing has gained in importance at a remarkable pace. The key characteristic of this technology is the possibility to provide new resources to the services in an elastic way according to current demand. In contrast to Cloud Computing, Multiagent Systems are focus on other features such as autonomy, decentralization, auto-organization, etc. This study demonstrates that this features of MAS are suitable to manage the physical infrastructure of a Cloud Computing environment, in other words, we present +Cloud which is a cloud platform managed by a Multiagent System.

A multi agent based predicting system is presented in which the aim is to forecast the presence or not of oil slicks in a certain area of the open sea after an oil spill. In this case, the multi agent architecture incorporates a predicting system based on the CBR methodology, implemented in a series of interactive services, for modeling and monitoring the ocean water masses. The system's nucleus is formed by a series of deliberative agents acting as controllers and administrators for all the implemented services. The implemented services are accessible in a distributed way, and can be accessed even from mobile devices. The proposed system uses information such as sea salinity, sea temperature, wind, currents, pressure, number and area of the slicks. obtained from various satellites. The system has been trained using data obtained after the Prestige accident. Oil Spill Multiagent system (OSM) has been able to accurately predict the presence of oil slicks in the north west of the Galician coast, using historical data.

One of the main attacks to ubiquitous databases is the SQL injection attack which causes severe damage both in the commercial aspect, as in the confidence of users. This paper proposes the SiC architecture as a solution to the SQL injection attack problem. This is a hierarchical distributed multiagent architecture which incorporates an entirely new approach with respect to existing architectures for the prevention and detection of SQL injections. SiC incorporates a kind of intelligent agent which integrates a case-based reasoning system. This agent, which is the core of the architecture, allows the application of detection techniques based on anomalies as well as detection techniques based on patterns, which provide a great degree of autonomy, flexibility, robustness and dynamic scalability. The characteristics of the multiagent system allow the architecture to detect attacks from different types of devices, regardless of the physical location. The architecture has been tested on a medical database guaranteeing safe access from various devices such as PDAs and computers notebook. This paper describes the main features of the architecture SiC (An agent based architecture for preventing and detecting attacks to ubiquitous databases) and shows the results obtained in the case of study.

This chapter presents ALZ-MAS 1 , an Ambient Intelligence based multi-agent system aimed at enhancing the assistance and health care for Alz-heimer patients. The system makes use of several context-aware technologies that allow it to automatically obtain information from users and the environment in an evenly distributed way, focusing on the characteristics of ubiquity, awareness, intelligence , mobility, etc., all of which are concepts defined by Ambient Intelligence. ALZ-MAS makes use of a services oriented multi-agent architecture, called FUSION@, to distribute resources and enhance its performance. It is demonstrated that a SOA approach is adequate to build distributed and highly dynamic Ambient Intelligence based multi-agent systems.

the disabled and elderly population, which represents a significant part of our
society, requires novel solutions for providing home care in an effective way. In
this chapter we present HoCaMA, a hybrid multiagent architecture that facilitates
remote monitoring and care services for disabled patients at their homes. HoCaMA
combines multiagent systems and Web services to facilitate the communication and
integration with multiple health care systems. In addition, HoCaMA focuses on the
design of reactive agents capable of interact with different sensors present in the
environment and incorporates a system of alerts through SMS and MMS mobile
technologies. Finally, it uses RFID and JavaCard technologies to provide advanced
location and identification systems as well as automatic access control facilities.
HoCaMA has been implemented in a real environment and the results obtained are

This chapter describes the application of a hybrid artificial intelligence approach to prediction in the domain of oceanography. A hybrid artificial intelligence strategy for forecasting the thermal structure of the water ahead of a moving vessel is presented. This approach combines the ability of a case-based reasoning system for identifying previously encountered similar situations and the generalising ability of an artificial neural network to guide the adaptation stage of the case-based reasoning mechanism. The system has been successfully tested in real time in the Atlantic Ocean; the results obtained are presented and compared with those derived from other forecasting methods. Research into artificial intelligence (AI) has produced various hybrid problem-solving methods, which may be applied to give more powerful computer based problem solving capabilities than may be obtained using purely algorithmic methods. The reason for the application of an AI approach is very often precisely because the nature of the problem to be addressed is such that no appropriate algorithm is either known or is applicable. For example, if the knowledge about a problem is incomplete or fuzzy, it may be difficult to select or to develop an algorithm or even an AI approach to solve it. It is in such situations where hybrid AI systems may be effective. Case-based reasoning systems have proved to be successful in situations where prior experience of solving similar problems is available. But the nature of a complex problem solving situation may be such that there are different aspects of the problem that may best be addressed through the application of several distinct problem solving methodologies. This paper focuses on the combination of case-based reasoning (CBR)

—Enabling high practical mobility of MIMO-OFDM systems requires accurate channel estimation under severe frequency and time selective fading channels. Conventional methods rely on non-realistic approximations or result in impractical complexities. In this paper, a new practical training-based MIMO channel estimation scheme is presented. The new pilot bits designed from the 'Paley-Hadamard' matrix allows exploiting its orthogonal and 'Toeplitz-like' structures for minimising its pilot length. Additionally, a novel pilot expansion technique is proposed to estimate the length of the channel impulse response, by flexibly extending its pilot length as required to capture the number of multipath existed within the MIMO channel. The proposed pilot expansion enables to deduce the initial channel variation and its Doppler rate, which can be subsequently applied for MIMO channel tracking using decision feedback Kalman filter during the data payload.

—The analysis of sequence data requires the processing of the data obtained from sequencers for their subsequent comparison with genomes. The information recovered from the sequencers must be assembled and aligned in order to recover the variations that exist in the patient DNA. This study proposes a system to detect and classify variations by integrating information taken from biomedical databases. The system incorporates different algorithms to search for differences as compared to the reference genome for patients.

The digital signature solves partially the problem of the validation of veracity of the digital resources because it provides the characteristics of authentication, integrity and non-repudiation. However, it has weakness in terms of availability, confidentiality and changes control, besides the complexity on its usage. Agreement technologies have settled the basis for creating systems
that operate on the basis of agreements in societies of independent, autonomous
computational entities (agents). However, nowadays more and more systems of
such kind rely on a seamless interaction of software agents with humans. Humans
work in partnership (directly or indirectly) or closely related with agents
that are able to act autonomously and intelligently. Specifically, humans and
agents have the ability to establish a series of relationships/collaborative interactions
with each other, forming what might be called human-agent teams to
meet their individual or collective goals within an organisation or social structure.
Systems in which people and agents operate on a large scale offer an
enormous potential but also require the consideration of additional issues. In
this paper we analyse the open issues that may be addressed for researches in
order to develop open human-agent systems. We present a real-world case
study and an abstract architecture proposal for such systems.

By means of SCODA, multi-agent systems development is allowed under specialized modular philosophy, through it, the functionalities of the system can be extended in scaled form, according to the objectives. SCODA is composed by small subsystems of agents called, Specialized Intelligent Communities (CIE), which provide the necessary functionalities to solve the objectives needed across distributed services. By means of these CIE, scalability of the systems is allowed, so that they could be re-used in different developments, independently of his purpose.

Context-aware technologies allow Ambient Assisted Living developments to automatically obtain information from users and their environment in a distributed and ubiquitous way. One of the most important technologies used to provide context-awareness is Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN). Wireless Sensor Networks comprise an ideal technology to develop Real-Time Locating Systems (RTLS) aimed at indoor environments, where existing global navigation satellite systems do not work correctly. In this regard, n-Core Polaris is an indoor and outdoor RTLS based on ZigBee WSNs and an innovative set of locating and automation engines. This paper presents the main components of the n-Core Polaris, as well as some experiments made in a real scenario whose results demonstrate the effectiveness of the system in indoor environments.

Nowadays there is a clear trend towards using methods and tools that can help to develop multiagent systems (MAS). Thanks to the contribution from agent based computing to the field of computer simulation mediated by ABS (Agent Based Simulation) is obtained benefits like methods for evaluation and vi-sualization of multi agent systems or for training future users of a system. This study presents a multiagent based middleware for the agents behavior simulation. The main challenge of this work is the design and development of a new infrastructure that can act as a middleware to communicate the current technology in charge of the development of the multiagent system and the technology in charge of the simulation, visualization and analysis of the behavior of the agents. The proposed middleware infrastructure makes it possible to visualize the emergent agent behaviour and the entity agent in a 3D environment. It also allows to design multi-agent systems considering organizational aspects of agent societies.

In this paper we introduce a quality metric for characterizing the solutions generated by a successful CBR spam filtering system called SPAMHUNTING. The proposal is denoted as relevant information amount rate and it is based on combining estimations about relevance and amount of information recovered during the retrieve stage of a CBR system. The results obtained from experimentation show how this measure can successfully be used as a suitable complement for the classifications computed by our SPAMHUNTING system. In order to evaluate the performance of the quality estimation index, we have designed a formal benchmark procedure that can be used to evaluate any accuracy metric. Finally, following the designed test procedure, we show the behaviour of the proposed measure using two well-known publicly available corpus.

Wireless Sensor Networks is a key technology for gathering outstanding information from different sources. However, it is not easy to integrate devices from different technologies into a single network. Distributed architec-tures, such as Multi-Agent Systems, can facilitate the integration of heterogeneous sensor networks. In addition, Multi-Agent Systems expand the sensors' capabilities changing their behavior dynamically and personalizing their reactions. This paper presents the novel Hardware-Embedded Reactive Agents (HERA) platform. HERA allows developing applications where agents are directly embedded in heterogeneous wireless sensor nodes with reduced computational resources.
