Al avanzar en el estudio de la aritmética los estudiantes se enfren-tan a cambios significativos en las matemáticas que ya han aprendido. Estos cambios afectan no solo al conocimiento matemático en sí mismo sino también al conocimiento matemático como objeto de enseñanza.En este capítulo, se describen estos cambios, destacando aquellos fenómenos en que los estudiantes pueden tener problemas de aprendizaje o aquellos aspectos que hacen que un contenido curricular sea más difícil de enseñar.

As we move forward in the study of arithmetic, students face significant changes in the mathematics they have already learned. These changes affect not only the mathematical knowledge itself but the mathematical knowledge as an object of teaching,In this chapter, these changes are described, pointing out those phenomena in which students may have learning problems or those as-pects which make a curricular content more difficult to teach.
